Kitzbuehel
Kitzbuehel is no doubt one of the best known alpine towns in Austria. Attractions and Activities
Old Town
Stroll through the Old Town and pay the plain gothic “Katharinenkirche” (Catherine Church) with its modern fresco of Christophorus a visit. Along the way, you get to the “Jochberger Tor” (Jochberg gate), the last kept town gate of Kitzbuehel which probably was also the site of the old castle.
Farmhouse Museum
Just outside of Kitzbuehel, a 450 year old farmhouse got furnished in the style of 100 years ago. Visit the smoky kitchen, the living quarter, the stable etc, all equipped with tools from the past. A small chapel as well as a garden belong to the museum. It’s open from June until September.
Wildpark Tirol
Would you like to take a close-up peek at more than 200 alpine animals? Visit the Wildpark Tirol in Oberaurach, just 8 km (5 miles) from Kitzbuehel. The park is open daily from January until middle of November.
Sports
All kind of winter sports, such as skiing, cross-country skiing, indoor curling etc are offered. Why not playing a round of golf in summer on one of four local golf courses (plus 19 in the area), swimming in a lake, walking and hiking on 300 km (186 miles) of walking trails, playing a game of tennis or discovering the beautiful surroundings by bike.
Skiing
Sensational is the spectacular connection between the Hahnenkamm/Pengelstein ski area and the Jochberg/Resterhöhe ski area: take the three-cable circulation cable-car (a technical innovation) and hover from one station to the other without taking the ski bus.
145 km (90 miles) of downhill trails as well as a snowboard fun park await you.
Hahnenkamm Downhill Race
End of January, thousands of ski fans travel to Kitzbuehel to see the most difficult and most fascinating downhill ski race on the Streif. The city becomes the target of excitement for three days during which the downhill, the Super-G as well as the slalom ski races are performed.
Getting to Kitzbuehel
Kitzbuehel is situated in the Tirol, approx 100 km (62 miles) from Innsbruck (1.5 hours by car). The closest airport is in Salzburg, approx 80 km (50 miles) away (1 hour by car).
Kitzbuehel can also easily be accessed by train.
